About
NextStep Billing is introducing a new tool that will allow NSS billers to bundle multiple Activities or Services into a new “Bundled” service for billing. Listed below are a few topics to be aware of when using the Activity Code Bundle Setup.
Base versus Bundled Activity Code
You will need two separate Activity Codes for the Bundle Services process. One will be the Base Code (the code chosen by the provider in Clinical) and the other will be the new Activity Code used in Billing to identify the Bundled Service.
- Both Activity Codes can be configured to pass through the Services Recalc.
- This includes Srv Rate disciplines, Ins Coverage, and Contacts Billable.
- The Base Activity Code does not need a rate.
- The Bundled Activity Code name itself has to be different than the Base Activity Code name.
- The Bundled Activity Code does not need to be added to the Clinical billing setup. It will only be used in Billing.
Line Items for Base Activity Codes
If an Activity code is set up to be bundled via the Activity Code Service Bundle Form, when a line item is created for a service with that activity code, then the Print Status for that line time will be N. This will prevent the code from being picked up by the 837 generator before it can be bundled.
- The user sets up the Activity Code Bundle.
- A service comes to NextStep Billing from NextStep Clinical for a Base Activity Code.
- When the service is Recalced and the Line Item for that Base Activity Code is created, the print status on the Line Item will be N and the Line will be Closed.
Authorizations and Bundled Services
Since Authorizations are added per Activity Code, the user will create a group of the Base and Bundle Activity Codes. That group can then be selected when filling out the Authorization Widget.
